The Tar River Chorus consists of volunteer singers from Rocky Mount and the surrounding counties of central and eastern North Carolina. The membership varies from 30 to 70 voices. In 1999 the Chorus sang in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

2006-2007 Concert Schedule

  • Saturday, March 24, 2007 -7:30 PM - First United Methodist Church, Rocky Mount.

    The Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Albinoni's Adagio in g minor for organ and strings and Endymion's Sleep by Raleigh composer J. Mark Scearce. Following a brief intermission, the 70-member chorus will join the orchestra for a performance of Mozart's Requiem, one of the most popular choral/orchestral works of all time. As depicted in the Peter Shaffer play, and later in the award-winning movie "Amadeus," Mozart frantically tried to finish this masterpiece as he lay on his own deathbed. All season ticket holders will be invited to a free private showing of the movie "Amadeus" at a date and time to be announced.

   

Maestro Sturgis begins his fourth full season as conductor for the Tar River Chorus and Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra. He also conducts the Carolina Ballet and North Carolina Master Chorale of Raleigh.
