The Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra is a professional ensemble. During the 2007-2008 season, the orchestra and chorus will perform for the fifth season under the baton of conductor Dr. Alfred Sturgis. |
The ensemble is comprised of musicians from Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham, Greenville, Rocky Mount and surrounding areas. |

| Sunday, October 21, 2007; 3:00 P.M. Dunn Center, N.C. Wesleyan College. The season starts off with a musical tour of Russia, featuring works by Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky. The 2007 Young Artist Competition winner, Eliana Fishbeyn, will perform Shastakovich's Piano Concerto no. 2. |

Concerts are usually held in the elegant Dunn Center at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount.
Due to responsive donors, financially conscious Board members and music directors and much volunteer activity, the Tar River Philharmonic distinguishes itself as one of the few orchestras in the country that year after year operates in the black.
