Tar River Symphonic Band

The Tar River Symphonic Band is comprised of about 50 musicians. There are about 17 local musicians who play, and the other
musicians are hired from central and eastern North Carolina. The band is currently directed by Dr. David McChesney, principal
trumpet in the Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra, director of bands at Ravenscroft School, and trumpet professor at UNC-Chapel Hill;
and Dr. Michael Votta, Director of Bands at the University of Maryland, formerly of UNC-Chapel Hill.
