The Tar River Young Artist Competition is an annual competition that is open to North Carolina music students aged 10 through 18.
Pianists compete every other year, with instrumentalists such as strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, vocalists, and guitarists
competing on the alternating years. The winner of the competition performs with the orchestra and is awarded a $250.00
scholarship to be used for further study. Each contestant must perform a movement of an approved selection with accompaniment
that also has an orchestral accompaniment

In 2010 Rebecca was named a winner in the Durham Symphony Young Artists Competition and performed twice as a soloist,
with the Symphony, under the baton of Maestro William Henry Curry. Also in 2010, she served as Assistant Principal Violinist
for the NC Symphony All-Star Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Grant Llewellyn. In recent years, Rebecca has played with the Piedmont
Youth Orchestra, the Duke University String School Orchestra the Mallarme Youth Chamber Orchestra. With her sister Emily, a
cellist, and long-time friend Elana Jaffe she has founded a piano trio which recently performed the Shostakovitch Trio in E minor
at the Carol Woods Retirement Community and at the Fletcher Opera Theatre, in
Rebecca is a frequent accompanist and soloist at her church, First Presbyterian, in
